1.0         BIRTH AND GENEALOGY

Arc. Ipalibo West, MNIA was born on the 7th day of January 1968 to the family of the Late Elder Dawari C. West of blessed memory and Madam Juliet Graham Owukolo. He hails from Buguma City in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He was married to the late Mrs. Awoere Vivian West. The marriage was blessed with three children.

 

2.0       EDUCATION

Arc. Ipalibo West, MNIA started his education at a very tender age at the Municipal Council School 3, Churchill Road in the Old Port Harcourt Township.

After his primary education he proceeded to Enitonna High School Borokiri, Port Harcourt for his secondary school career. His leadership qualities were made visible when he was appointed as Chapel Prefect during the 1982 set.

On completion of his secondary school career, he was admitted at the former Rivers State University of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University Nkpolu-Oroworukwo where he enrolled to read Architecture in 1984. He obtained a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in 1988 and successfully served the Federal Republic of Nigeria through the National Youth Service (NYSC) scheme at Biu Local Government Council in Bornu State.

On return from Bornu State after his NYSC, in 1989, Arc. Ipalibo West, MNIA was employed in Braidarch Team (One of the foremost and oldest private architectural firms in Rivers State) where he proved his mettle in the architectural profession by handling major building construction projects as Supervising Architect on sites like – The New Finima Project, Industrial Estate at Ahoada, Sagbama and Yenegoa, NNPC Housing Estate at Akpajo and variety of other residential projects.

His zeal for attaining academic excellence led him to enrolling for a Master of Science (M.Sc) Degree Programme in Architecture with the former Rivers State University of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University, Npkolu-Oroworukwo where he successfully completed the programme in 1988.

 

3.0       PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Arc. Ipalibo West, MNIA is a registered Chartered Architect with the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). He is also a full member, Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA).

4.0       WORKING EXPERIENCE AND PRIVATE ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE

Arc. Ipalibo West, MNIA set up his private partnership practice, Westarc Associates after he resigned from Braidarch Team. He handled lots of corporate and private architectural and building construction projects before he was consulted to provide his professional services and wealth of experience at the renowned multi-national company DAEWOO E&C Nig. Ltd., where he rose to the position of Manager, Architectural and Civil Services.

Arc. Ipalibo West, MINA later left the services of DAEWOO E&C Nig. Ltd., and set up his personal private architectural firm WESTMARK CONSTRUCTION COMPANY LTD. This company undertook several architectural design projects, building construction and consultancy services in government, multi-national companies and the private sector.

The track record and vast experiences gained in the architectural and building construction sectors led to the demand for his services by the Rivers State Government to provide his wealth of experience at the former Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Rumuola, now Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Rumuola where he is currently the Head of Department in the Department of Architecture.

5.0       POLITICAL CAREER

Arc. Ipalibo West’s, interest in politics became manifest when he engaged in political activities right from his days at the university as Students Union Leader and other positions he held at department, faculty and club levels.

His political antecedents earned him an enviable position of Chairman of the Defunct Grassroot Democratic Movement (GDM) in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Arc. Ipalibo West, MNIA was also appointed as the first Secretary to the ASALGA Council under the People Democratic Party (PDP) government of the 3rd Republic in the year 2000.
