OKE ABAYOMI AKINKUNMI was born on the 4th of December 1968 into the family of Late (Mrs) Iyabo and Chief Akin Oke, had his primary education at Sacred Heart Private School Onireke Ibadan; before proceeding to the prestigious Government College Ibadan, Nigeria (September 1979 – June 1984. Upon completion of his secondary education he was admitted for his A’Level Education at Federal Government College, Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria (September 1986 – June 1987). He then got attended at Bendel State University, Abraka, Bendel State, Nigeria (September 1987 – June 1990) which is now Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria where he was an English Major in the Faculty of Education. He proceeded to the University of North London, Holloway, North London. (September 1995 – June 1999) where he was awarded LL.B. (Hons.) degree. Mr. Oke attended The Nigerian Law School, (Abuja Campus), Bwari, Nigeria from Feb. 2000 – Feb. 2002. He was called to The Nigerian Bar in Feb. 2003.

Work Experience: Upon his relocation to the United Kingdom in the early Nineties; he worked at BLACKMORE EDUCATION SERVICES (LONDON, U.K) as the Client Services Assistantand later at HIGH & MIGHTY (LONDON, U.K) an up-market cloth retail outfit from where he developed an interest in fashion, he worked there as a Customer/Client Service Representative, whilst he was a law undergraduate. On the completion of his Law Degree in the U.K. he began is law career with the firm of DEAN & DIMS (Solicitors) (Essex, U.K) as an Intern/Clerk from 1999-2000 before is admission into the Nigerian Law School for his admission into the Nigerian Bar. Between 2002 and 2003 whilst preparing for the Georgia State Bar. In the United State of America he had his internship at The Johnson Family Law Firm; where he handled various legal matters; particularly in Capital Market, Corporate Law and Property Law.

Upon his admission to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate, Abayomi worked at the Law Firm of S.P.A Ajibade & Co., Lagos, Nigeria as a Legal Practitioner between 2003-2006. Whilst at this law firm, he was saddled with the responsibilities of handling Capital Market matters particularly, the secretariat of the Capital Market Solicitors Association. He was involved in the recapitalization of major Capital Market players like Royal Exchange Assurance, African Petroleum (AP) and many more. He has appeared in both lower and Appellate Courts extensively and has handled major landmark matters from the Daily Times Nigeria Plc ownership matter, Econet Wireless now (Airtel) ownership legal tussle, he was also part of the team that reviewed the Pension Law. He left to establish Thames Chambers; Ikeja – Lagos as managing Partner/Legal Practitioner; with some partners. The firm core area of specialization is Capital Market, Property Law, Corporate Law and Legal Research and Advisory. Abayomi, took a leave of absence of the firm when he was appointed in 2011 by the administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the Special Adviser on Environment to the Oyo State Governor.

He was the Special Adviser on Environment to the Executive Governor of Oyo State; Ibadan – Oyo State where he

– Advised the Executive Governor on the widely acclaimed Urban Renewal Programme of the Administration.

– Headed the team that conceptualized the Ibadan Beautification Project and supervised the entire project;

– Initiated the 1st Oyo State Environmental Stakeholders’ Forum

– Prepared and implemented the Waste Management Framework

– Supervised the creation of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the State Government amongst others.

– He was responsible for the development of sectorial markets in Ibadan- Scout Camp Market Molete, first Auto Car dealer mart at Molete and Ife Road, Salad Market at Molete and many more

He was part of the 2-man team that prepared the documentation that led to the World Bank intervention in Oyo State after the August 2011 flood. He was in this office till end of the first term of the Ajimobi administration in 2015.

Mr Oke; is currently the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Oyo State and he was appointed to office in June 2016 and he has demonstrated his willingness to interact with young people and his interest in young entrepreneurs in Oyo state.

He is committed to the development of sports and youth with focus in Policy Development.

Since his appointment, he has restructured the thematic focus of the Ministry, focusing on grassroot development for sports and youth vocational training along with empowerment for the youths.

Lest we forget, his impart on Shooting Stars Football Club (IICC Shooting Stars) of Ibadan cannot be ignored.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

He is an avid squash player and has a passion for cricket.

He is happily married with children.
